Course Description

Synopsis:

This module features highlights from the "Scope 3 GHG Emissions and Operational Carbon Neutrality" workshop, an initiative by ISCA's Sustainability and Climate Change Committee (SCCC) through its Sustainability Excellence Sub-committee. It aims to share practical, applicable and actionable insights with participants, including suitable approaches, methodologies and tools to account for scope 3 GHG emissions and work towards operational carbon neutrality. Speakers from Schneider Electric and PwC Singapore were invited to share their insights at the event. 

Segments covered:   

1. Presentation: Operational Carbon Neutrality

  • Basic strategies around carbon neutrality
  • Key first principles for the quality of carbon credits and RECs
  • How to do it safely, e.g. not to use low-quality carbon credits which might give rise to reputational risk
  • Case studies to illustrate key concepts

2. Presentation: Demystifying Scope 3 GHG Emissions

  • Practical steps (including an example) and tools to identify main sources of Scope 3 GHG emissions and account for them
  • Common challenges to measure and account for GHG emissions, particularly Scope 3 GHG emissions, and practical solutions or stopgap measures
  • How to manage the costs of Scope 3 GHG emissions accounting
  • How accountants can help

3. Panel Discussion - Operational Carbon Neutrality with a View for Net-zero Eventually

  • Governance and who is driving agenda internally
  • What information or data is needed
  • Expectations for accountants to contribute to operational carbon neutrality in the organisation
  • Different approaches to drive decarbonisation strategies, including practical steps
  • Use of technology/digitalisation, vendors, consultants, etc. to facilitate carbon neutrality
