Katy Kan
Katy Kan (PhD) has more than 30 years of experience across academia, education and commercial. In academia, Dr Kan’s doctoral contribution was in the interrogation of critical humour as power in social media. In education, Dr Kan has more than 20 years of experience teaching Business & Professional Communication at various Institutes of Higher Learning. These include the National University of Singapore, James Cook University, Nanyang Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic. In educational research, Dr Kan was involved in various educational research projects in the areas of Media Literacy and Shadow Education at the National Institute of Education. Commercially, Dr Kan was active in the field of marketing communication for the Credit Card and Telecommunications sectors. In the area of adult education, Dr Kan spearheaded the setting up of the Continual Education and Training (CET) arm at the tertiary level and delivered SSG-approved communication workshops to the public. The courses include “Principled Negotiations: Communicate Win-Win”, “Writing Summaries, Insights and Perspectives” and “Communicating Your Personal Brand Consistently Across Communicative Settings”. In her consultancy work, Dr Kan focuses on ESG framework development, stakeholder communication, technical narratives for sustainability disclosure and corporate training for various organisational clients.
