Synopsis:

In this fireside chat, speakers from Allen & Gledhill share recent developments in Singapore’s fight against money laundering, including the conclusion of enforcement actions taken by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (“MAS”). This is in relation to the major $3 billion money laundering case and the imposition of composition penalties against five major payment institutions licensed to provide cross-border money transfer services.

The speakers also discuss recent revisions to AML / CFT notices and guidelines for financial institutions, and the dual role that legislation and enforcement action play in combatting money laundering in Singapore.

May Ling has an established background in litigation. She is a Partner at Allen & Gledhill’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice and has a particular expertise in matters involving white collar crime and investigations. As part of her practice, May Ling frequently acts for financial institutions, public-listed and multinational corporations and high-profile individuals. She also has experience representing corporate and individual clients in criminal and regulatory investigations and enforcement actions in a range of areas including bribery and corruption, securities fraud and disclosure regulations, anti-money laundering controls and financial sanctions. She is presently Chairman on the Board of the SAS-SBF (Security Association Singapore - Singapore Business Federation) Foundation of Compassion Fund and is also an Accredited Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre.

Cheryl has particular expertise in white collar and investigations, employment, as well as regulatory and compliance matters. She regularly advises public and private companies, financial institutions and high net worth individuals on contentious issues such as fraud, internal investigations, employee misconduct, anti-money laundering, sanctions, insider trading and corruption. She also advises clients on non-contentious matters ranging from drafting employment contracts and policies to conducting compliance trainings.She is a member of the Law Society Anti-Money Laundering Committee and has also been appointed as a member of the Criminal Legal Assistance Steering Committee.
