Synopsis:
Over the past decade, the concept of smart cities has gained
significant momentum, driven by the need to address complex urban challenges
such as sustainability, efficiency, and quality of life. As a result, more
internet of things (IoT) devices are being incorporated into the infrastructure
around us and traditional operational tech (OT) devices are also behaving more
like informational technology (IT).
This has triggered a global alert in terms of the adequacy
on the security considerations for OT devices. In the EU, the Cyber Resilience
Act covers IoT and most recently in Singapore, the Cyber Security Agency of
Singapore (CSA) has announced the 2024 OT master plan to address this
area.
As auditors and accountants start to undertake complex roles
covering different disciplines, understanding what OT devices are, the role
they play in our world and the risks involved will help improve the
understanding on the changes happening around us and undertake better risk
management measures in this domain.
