Course Description

Synopsis:

The second GST rate hike from 8% to 9% will come into effect on 1 January 2024 and hence, businesses are encouraged to start their preparation early to ensure a smooth transition to the new GST rate of 9%. This e-learning module is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt to GST rate adjustments seamlessly, ensuring compliance and minimising disruption to business operations. 

The primary focus areas are: 

(1)    Transitional rules for rate change and examples are given on how to apply the transitional rules; 
(2)    Operational and compliance requirements (e.g. price display, issuance of credit notes, volume-related rebates, returned goods); 
(3)    Errors to avoid during second-rate change; and 
(4)    To-do list which is essentially a recap of key takeaways.

The e-learning module will also cover the updates on the GST rules from the first-rate change.

Yvonne Chua

Yvonne leads the GST practice at Baker Tilly Singapore. With over 25 years of GST specialist experience, Yvonne started her career with IRAS before joining a Big 4 international accounting firm for over nine years where she served global and multinational companies. Prior to joining Baker Tilly, she was also responsible for co-setting up a dedicated GST practice in one of the largest mid-tier accounting firms. Yvonne supports clients with a full suite of GST advisory and compliance services, which include reviews under the Assisted Self Help Kit (ASK) and Assisted Compliance Assurance Programme (ACAP). Yvonne advises clients on GST implications arising from business restructuring, merger and acquisitions, and cross border transactions and to seek clarifications or rulings with the IRAS where needed. She also has extensive experience with supporting clients on dispute analysis and resolution matters arising from tax investigation and audit cases conducted by the IRAS. Yvonne is an Accredited Tax Advisor (GST) and is a member of the GST Committee with the Singapore Chartered Tax Professionals (SCTP).
