Synopsis

This module explores how artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative and agentic AI, is transforming finance and accounting. Participants will gain a strategic understanding of AI’s role in reshaping the finance function, moving from traditional transaction processing to value creation, predictive insights, and governance support. Drawing on global applications and industry case studies, the module highlights:

  • The three foundational layers of AI in accounting (applications, data, infrastructure).
  • Practical uses of AI across finance functions: automation, predictive analytics, fraud detection, compliance, and narrative reporting.
  • Cross-industry case studies in banking, insurance, retail, and government showcasing AI-enabled transformation.
  • The governance, risk, and cultural frameworks necessary to integrate AI responsibly into finance.
  • The rise of AI Agents and how it is reshaping business processes for accountants.

The learning is positioned at the intersection of finance, technology, and sustainable value creation, equipping participants to apply modern best practices in an evolving digital landscape.

Mr Kaushika Jayalath

Kaushika Jayalath is a Principal Solutions Consultant at Oracle Corporation, where he enables enterprise finance transformations, business process optimisation, and guides organisations through complex change management. Beyond his role at Oracle, he serves as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of CPA Australia, contributing to strategic development, governance, and risk oversight.Deeply committed to bridging the digital skills gap, Kaushika mentors future professionals and guest lectures at Monash University, Swinburne University, and the University of Queensland. His career spans senior finance, accounting, business analysis, and project management roles across Melbourne, underpinned by a strong record of industry recognition, including the CPA Australia Certificate of Excellence in 2016. Kaushika also holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Bachelor of Economics, and a Diploma of Business. He is certified in ITIL®4 (IT Service Management), Cloud ERP solutions, and AI/ML, and is an Order of Merit graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
